Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committee (MESC) of The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) arranged an industrial visit to North Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd. At EPZ, Biyagama on 22nd June 2017 with the participation of 22 engineers. The purpose of the visit was to enhance industry exposure of the participants, get practical insights into modern manufacturing processes and techniques.
The worldwide leader in both racing and cruising sails, the North Group commenced its operations in Sri Lanka in 1996 with the establishment of North Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd. Growing from one single facility, today four companies (eight manufacturing plants) are operated under the North umbrella at the Biyagama Export Processing Zone.

Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committee (MESC) and Agricultural Engineering Sectional
Committee of The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) jointly arranged an industrial visit to
National Engineering Research and Development Centre (NERDC), Ekala on 23rd March 2017. A
group of twenty two members representing both sectional committees participated.
The Chairman Eng. Shavi Fernando, Director General Eng. Ananda Namal and senior officers of the NERD welcomed the group. They briefly commented about the vision and mission of the NERDC, ongoing research and development work, industrial services they provide and how knowledge is transferred to the general public. They insisted the group to propose ways and means of improving the activities of NERDC in the afternoon session after visiting important places.

Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committee (MESC) of The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) arranged an industry visit to Alumex Plc, Sapugaskanda on 18th March 2017 with the participation of 17 engineers. The purpose of the visit was to enhance industry exposure of the participants, get practical insights into Aluminum fabrication and manufacturing processes.
As scheduled, the visit team reached the Alumex Plc facility at 9.30am. The team first gathered at the company training room. The session started with an introduction done by Mr. Tissa Jayathilaka, group manager, marketing at Alumex Plc. He explained how the company has developed their product range from standard aluminium sections to architectural solutions. Then Mr. Manchanayake, training manager explained Aluminium manufacturing and fabrication processes in detail as summarized below.
