Its determination, on the other hand, to have international recognition for the engineering education programs of the country and for the professional competency of its valued members as equivalent to that in developed countries requires that its business processes match the higher levels of its aspirations.
The need to revamp the existing membership management system to a system with modern features that could cater, without restrictions, to the entire membership, including student members, has been the subject of many discussions. In this regard an RFP was floated to implement a state of art membership management system expecting to give much better experience to membership and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the IESL Secretariat. The submissions have already been evaluated and shortlisted and would very soon proceed to final selection of service provider and implementation.
New wash rooms complex, with changing rooms, in the vicinity of the Members’ Lounge in the ground floor of rear building became a reality. Work on the refurbishment of the wash rooms in 1st and 2nd floors are also in progress.
In another step forward spaces /resources available to conduct lectures, meetings, functions were identified and advertised for renting out after a survey in order to optimize their utilization. You may use facilities available at IESL for your requirements.
Improvements towards a state of the art Wimalasurendra Auditorium, free wifi facility to members together with other proposed infrastructure improvements such as to the Front area of IESL, Food Processing Area, the Canteen and towards general upkeep are continually being focused upon, with expert advice, by the Infrastructure Committee liaising with secretariat staff, Finance & Procurement Committee and the Council of IESL. Members’ Surveys are done where required to obtain their views.
Deviating from infrastructure matters I would like to mention that special committees are now working on engineering related issues in the country and members’ contribution to them are required. Committees on revision of code of ethics, Free Trade Agreements, Construction standards, operationalizing Council Bill, engineering education of the country etc. are among those involved.
The IESL is providing the opportunity to its Associate Members to obtain charter by decentralizing the Professional Examination to the Provincial Chapters (and even to overseas chapters) and increasing the frequency of Professional Reviews to four times a year from the earlier twice a year frequency.
I also encourage Corporate Members who remain in the Member category to upgrade themselves to become proud Fellows of this historic institution.
I kindly invite the Corporate Members of the IESL to apply for the Int PE membership status. International Professional Engineer (IntPE) is governed by the International Professional Engineering Agreement (IPEA), which consists of the national engineering organizations of Australia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UK and USA.
In conclusion I remind you of the upcoming events: Engineers’ night, Induction and graduation ceremony, national engineering conference, FEISCA seminar, annual sessions and Techno and invite all our members to volunteer and contribute to make them all a success.
Thank you.
