Undergraduate Inventor of the Year (UIY) Grand Finale

Undergraduate Inventor of the Year 2021, the invention idea competition organized by IESL, which is the unique platform for recognizing and rewarding the nation's most outstanding and innovative undergraduate students and showcasing the emerging ideas and inventions that will shape our future, was held on the 08th of October 2021 via an online platform.

The competition was conducted under the immense leadership of Eng. Navodana Kankanamge, the president of IESL JIY & UIY 2021 as well as Dr. Dulini Mudunkotuwa, the secretary of IESL JIY & UIY 2021. Dr. Charitha Darshana Makavita, Dr. Sulochana Sooriyaarachchi, Eng. Kamalnath, Eng. Ruwan Nagahawatte and Eng. Samudaya Nanayakkara gave their fullest support as panellists to make the competition a success.

The competition received lots of invention ideas, of which 6 were selected for the final competition. The award ceremony was conducted with the participation of IESL President, Eng. K.P.I.U. Dharmapala and IESL President - Elect, Eng. Arjuna Manamperi. Dr. Gamini Kulatunga was the keynote speaker.

Followings were the winning innovations.

• First place - “Lunch Sheet Separator from Food Waste” from the University of Jaffna.
• Second place - “iSORT - A Plastic Sorting and Shredding Machine” from the University of Peradeniya.
• Third place - “Digital Signage Based User Targeted Advertising” from the University of Peradeniya.
• The Best Short Video - “Digital Signage Based User Targeted Advertising” from the University of Peradeniya.
• The Most Popular Invention – “Lunch Sheet Separator from Food Waste” from the University of Jaffna.
