IESL VC AGM 2025

The 35th Annual General Meeting and Annual Session 2024/2025 of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka – Vadakkin Chapter (IESL-VC) took place on 8th November 2025 at Mango Mansion, Mirusuvil, Jaffna, with the participation of over 150 engineers from across the Northern Province. The event was presided over by Chairman Eng. S. Sarvaraja, who opened the meeting with a moment of silence to honor late members.

The newly elected Executive Committee for the 2025/2026 session was announced, with Eng. V. Mernan assuming the role of Chairman, supported by Eng. S. Vihirthan (Chairman-Elect), Eng. S. Saravanakumaran (Secretary), Eng. S. Lavanjan (Treasurer), and several committee and subcommittee heads representing JIY, Techno, Building, CPD, and Sports.

Following the AGM, the Annual Session commenced at 5:30 p.m., graced by distinguished guests, including Chief Guest Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya, President of IESL, and Special Guests — Eng. Prabodha Jinasena (President-Elect, IESL), Eng. Dr. Kamal Laksiri (Past President), Eng. Samantha Gunawardana (Senior Vice President), and Eng. V. Jegananthan (Council Member, IESL). The ceremony opened with the traditional oil lamp lighting, the national and IESL anthems, and a cultural performance by local students.

The official proceedings included the release of the IESL-VC Annual Transactions 2024/2025, presented by Eng. B. Seharan, and a review of the Chapter’s achievements by Eng. S. Sarvaraja. A keynote address by the Chief Guest, Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya highlighted the importance of regional engagement and member development. Sponsor presentations by Tokyo Cement (Platinum Sponsor) and MELWA (Gold Sponsor) enriched attendees' technical exposure. Awards and certificates were presented to outstanding contributors and JIY-2025 provincial and national winners.

Newly appointed Chairman Eng. V. Mernan concluded the session with a forward-looking address emphasising enhanced support for young engineers in achieving Chartered Membership, announcing the first mentoring discussion to be held on the following day at J Hotel, Jaffna, with the participation of IESL leadership. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks by Secretary Eng. T. Jegan and a fellowship dinner celebrating professional unity and service.
