Registration of Engineering Practitioners under Engineering Council Sri Lanka

The Engineering Council, Sri Lanka (ECSL), established in accordance with the provisions of the Engineering Council, Sri Lanka Act No 4 of 2017 in the Parliament of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is pleased to inform the process of registration of Engineering Practitioners in Sri Lanka. According to section 14 of the said Act, no engineering practitioner shall engage in the practice of engineering profession unless such engineering practitioner is registered under Section 15 or 18 of the Act. Categories of engineering practitioners as defined by the Act are: 1. Chartered Engineer 2. Associate Engineer 3. Affiliate Engineer 4. Incorporated Engineer 5. Engineering Diplomate 6. Engineering Technician It is hereby informed that, following the said Act, registration at the ECSL for the categories 1, 2, and 3 above will be carried out through The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) and that for the categories of 4 and 5 above will be carried out through The Institution of Incorporated Engineers, Sri Lanka (IIESL). The exact procedure will be informed by the two institutions. The registration must be completed before 31st of July 2019. ECSL has decided that the registration fee for the first year, is Rs. 1000/= + VAT (15%). Procedure for the registration of others who are not covered by IESL and IIESL would be informed in due course.
