Opportunity to Chemical Engineers for a Pre-feasibility study assignment

Paranthan Chemicals Company Ltd (PCCL), a State-owned company functioning under the purview of the Ministry of Industries has initiated a feasibility study to set up a caustic soda/chlorine plant at Paranthan in Kilinochchi District. There were four products identified to be manufactured in this project, namely caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite. However in the market study of this feasibility study has shown that there is a huge market potential for poly aluminium chloride (PAC). As such PCCL has decided to incorporate PAC into the project. Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC) is an effective & useful substitute for Aluminium Sulfate (Alum) which is conventionally used for removal of mud/turbidity in most of water treatment plants in Sri Lanka.

Poly aluminium chloride demand in Sri Lanka is 8,500 metric tons annually with an increasing demand trend. This volume equates approximately a market value of Rs. 600 million annually. As such PCCL has initiated a literature survey/study on commercially available production technologies so that best technology can be identified to set up a PAC plant. PCCL intends to get the assistance of a team of Chemical Engineers for this study. A Terms of Reference is prepared for this study. A honorarium will be paid to the Engineers participating in this study as an appreciation of their contribution towards this assignment.

Interested Chemical Engineers shall contact the Secretary of the Chemical Engineering Sectional Committee for further details & to obtain the TOR.

The deadline is 22nd February 2021.
