The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) took a proactive step in strengthening the national engineering landscape by hosting a stakeholder gathering in support of the National Engineering Conference (NEC) on May 20 at Hotel Galadari, Colombo.

The forum brought together influential stakeholders from key government and engineering institutions, including the Ministry of Highways, Urban Development Authority (UDA), Road Development Authority (RDA), and the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB). These entities play a pivotal role in shaping infrastructure and regulatory frameworks in the country.

The main objective of the event was to foster meaningful dialogue between the NEC and its stakeholders, ensuring that national engineering policies and regulations are responsive, inclusive, and aligned with modern challenges. The gathering served as a platform for sharing expertise, concerns, and innovative ideas aimed at uplifting the engineering profession.

During the interactive sessions, participants exchanged valuable insights and proposals. Topics ranged from streamlining the professional accreditation process and enhancing regulatory compliance, to expanding opportunities for continuing professional development. "The ideas that emerged during this gathering have great potential to positively impact the engineering sector," said an IESL spokesperson. "We are committed to working closely with the NEC to turn these ideas into actionable strategies."

According to IESL, the feedback and recommendations collected during the event will be formally compiled and presented to the National Engineering Council. These inputs are expected to influence future policies and initiatives designed to elevate the standards and effectiveness of engineering governance in Sri Lanka.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose among stakeholders, signaling a strong commitment to collaborative progress in the engineering field.
