Third Death Anniversary of Dr Mervyn Gunasekera – May 14th
 
 

He was a very active member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, London both locally and overseas. He was in the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Association of the Institution of Civil Engineers (SLAice) from its inception initially as the Vice Chairman. He was a member of the Professional Reviews not only in Sri Lanka but also overseas in Hong Kong, Chennai etc. when his observations were well accepted by the overseas members. Just before his demise he had completed the Professional Reviews in Sri Lanka and his reports were on their way to London.

 

He has been a Past President of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), and was known to many of the Engineering Professional bodies and their respective Past Presidents, specially in the Asia Pacific Region. In the IESL he served in many standing committees and contributed to the development of the IESL, including the infrastructure development.

 

In addition to his Professional contributions, he has been a very successful Visiting Lecturer in the areas of Project Management and also in Construction Management in almost all the Engineering Faculties in Sri Lanka during his time and also in the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Moratuwa. He has been a Council Member in several Sri Lankan Universities.

 

He has been a motivator to the youth aspiring to become Chartered Engineers and has been a very cordial friend and colleague to all whom he came across professionally and academically. While his demise was very sudden he has been a person who was always committed to pay his last respects at the demise of his acquaintances and their family members.
