As I am writing these words, the country is facing a severe disaster situation due to inclement weather conditions and their impacts. The Disaster Management Centre is reporting of flood and landslide risk in 19 provinces; 12 deaths, 43 houses fully damaged and 3,172 houses partially damaged; 56,472 persons (14,500 families) housed in 246 refugee stations; NBRO has issued red alerts for potential risk of landslides in 23 DSD’s in Ratnapura, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Kalutara and Galle Districts. IESL Council elected by the corporate members every session is entrusted with the responsibility of governing matters related to IESL and its members. It meets once a month on the first Friday and as needed on specially scheduled days. Decisions taken at a meeting are ratified in the following meeting and published on the website via a secure link here.

Third Death Anniversary of Dr Mervyn Gunasekera – May 14th
 
Dr Mervyn Gunasekera

He was a very active member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, London both locally and overseas. He was in the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Association of the Institution of Civil Engineers (SLAice) from its inception initially as the Vice Chairman. He was a member of the Professional Reviews not only in Sri Lanka but also overseas in Hong Kong, Chennai etc. when his observations were well accepted by the overseas members. Just before his demise he had completed the Professional Reviews in Sri Lanka and his reports were on their way to London. Read more... >>>
