The IESL held its ‘BaK Maha Ulela’ 2017 new year festival on Saturday, 29th April 2017, from 8.00am to 5.00pm, at the Colombo 7 premises of the Women’s International Club.
A day full of Fun & Games, members and their families participated in traditional festivities of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The event opened with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by the national anthem and welcome speech by IESL President, Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda.
The organizing committee had made every effort to make this year’s event extraordinary, going in to details arranging not only the usual Fun and Games but also taking all the trouble to bring in artistes for demonstration of the martial arts practiced by the ancient Sinhalese as a special item for the occasion.
The day was filled with all the traditional games; Breaking pots blindfolded, Bun eating with hands tied back, Racing with lime fruit balanced on a spoon held in the mouth, Musical Chairs, Gunny bag racing, Couples feeding yoghurt blindfolded, Hula Hoop, Tug of War, Fancy Dress competition, etc. lined for children as well as adults to enjoy the day in full.
