Dear Editor,
I must congratulate you and the team who puts out the digital SLEN for this session. I see increased number of articles even a sprinkle of Sinhala ( the latest article in Sinhala by Eng. Nadeera was intriguing). Wish to see more of that and also in Tamil.
One of our Past Presidents made a great suggestion at a recent Council meeting. He said it's OK to do things in the public in native and official languages, but, it's fair to give a translation in English ( at least summary ) since our membership is multiethnic. Please look into creating English summaries. By the way this goes to English ones as well! However, I do not want to burden you with a task of putting summaries in Sinhala and Tamil.
Your editorial on the GARBAGE issue was very good. So was President's message giving a good update on what is going on at IESL within and nationally. I think the current President is using the digital SLEN which is a feature of our current membership management system well, to get IESL message out! That's exactly what the President should do with a news paper of our own.
However, I still think SLEN is not the Voice of Sri Lankan Engineers. For it to be that and become a National Force ( it can be and over the years the idea of going National has been around but no Editor has done it yet), we must get lot more input from all corners of Sri Lanka and abroad where our engineers work and live. I personally know you have taken lots of steps to get such input, which is why some very interesting articles are appearing.
We can do better with our members support. I would encourage more multimedia clips ( videos / voice recordings) in our articles. It might be good for you to go with a team of enthusiasts ( engineers) to our Provincial Chapters and actually make such documentaries utilizing smartphones, alone! This is the technology and future. It will also get our engineers, especially the young who are out in rural Sri Lanka to show case great projects, social issues, festivities, etc. in multimedia.
Such a digital SLEN will be truly a "digital voice of engineers"
I also request never to publish any article without a contributing party's name or names.
I am very encouraged by the work you and the team is doing. Especially given the fact that I was the implementor / initiator of the digital SLEN in 2013 with then Editor, Eng. (Dr) U P Nawagamuwa and the ever green Mr. Srinath Dolage ( digital creator of SLEN that IESL hired in 2013 and still with us) under the visionary leadership of PP Eng. Tilak De Silva.
I like to see IESL invest funds to take this digital voice of the Sri Lankan Engineers global. When we spend Members funds on so many things, by investing a few hundred thousands a session, we could reap massive economic and social returns. Previous suggestions in the past have gone to deaf years or blind eyes. We have many pressing National and Professional issues we must discuss in SLEN in all languages and take public. That's how Engineers are going to be seen as leaders.
Dear Editor, Please lead the charge as one of our own engineers thriving in the digital ecosystem!
As you know, I am always there to uplift SLEN.
