The IESL Day event for the year of 2017, was organized and was successfully conducted on 22nd of April, 2017 from 8.30am to 5.00pm at the Faculty of Engineering, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. The IESL president Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda graced the event with his presence as the Chief Guest, Provincial Director of Road Development Authority Eng. ALM. Nizar, AGM of National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Trincomalee Eng. N.Sudesan, Chairman of the Hairu Group of Companies Eng. ZM. Hairu, YMS Chairman Eng.Dayan Herath, took part in the technical session as guests and resource personals. The Dean of the faculty, Heads of Departments and students from all 3 departments participated in the event.
Since the main objective of the IESL day is to connect academics and undergraduates with the Engineering industry and its senior Engineering professionals, it comprised of several technical talks by senior Engineers. A Research Project Poster Presentation by the final year students of the faculty was also conducted. Valuable feedback on implementation of the research projects, ways to improve the applications side of the projects and ideas on how to provide industrial applicable solutions in Sri Lankan context were gathered during the Poster Presentation Session.
At the same time, several competitions namely Spaghetti Bridge Competition, CAD Master and Circuit Designing Competition took place as a part of the event. In Addition, the Robotic Exhibition also beautified the event as all the students contributed to the event.
The Technical Talks were delivered during the day and served as excellent medium of knowledge transfer between Senior Engineers and the Engineering Undergraduates. All the distinguished guests made presentation on important and interesting topics.
Moreover, the awarding of certificates to the winners of competitions and presenting of Souvenirs to the respected guests were also part of the event as to be the memorable glimpses.
The organizers would like to thank Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda (Prsident-IESL), Eng. ALM. Nizar (Provincial Director-RDA), Eng. N.Sudesan (AGM-NWS&DB), Eng. ZM. Hairu (Chairman-Hairu Group of Companies), & Eng. Dayan Herath (Chairman-YMS) for the support rendered for the successful event. Further, we want to take this opportunity to thank the University administration for their support and extend our sincere gratitude to the Dean Dr. SM. Junaideen for his guidance. The hard work and commitment of the IESL Students’ Chapter and the student chapter chairman Mr. Thilina Medagama and his team is not to be forgotten at this moment.
