Institution of Engineer, Sri Lanka – Qatar Chapter conducted its 3rd Annual General meeting on November 11, 2016 at Mercure Grand Hotel, Doha with the participation of Sri Lankan Engineers who are working in Qatar.
Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda, President of Institution of Engineer, Sri Lanka (IESL) participated to the event as the Chief Guest.
Formalities of the Annual General Meeting commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest followed by the executive committee members of the Qatar Chapter, Senior Engineers and other distinguished guests.
Outgoing Vice Chairman, Eng. Shantha Weerasinghe welcomed the gathering and the outgoing chapter Secretary for the session 2015/2016, Eng. Kamil Ariff presented the highlights of the events that had taken place at the chapter during the particular period.
Chief Guest, President of IESL, Eng. Jayavial Meegoda, inspired the audience by highlighting the importance of professional engagement with IESL and becoming a Chartered Engineer of the institution which is now even having Washington Accord signatory status.
Elected office bearers of the Qatar Chapter for the session 2016/2017 from the received nominations, were inducted. Eng. Jagath Gunasekara was appointed as the Chairman for the chapter for session 2016/2017 and Eng. Kamil Ariff was appointed as Vice Chairman. Eng. Prabuddha Lokuliyanage, Eng. Balasubramaniam Mathivannan, Eng. Ashoka Jayalath were appointed as Secretary, Editor and Treasure respectively and in the meantime, Eng. Prasanna Janakasiri, Eng. Chanaka Guruge, Eng. Mohamed Rajas, Eng. Amila Mapa, Eng. Nadeera Wijesinghe were appointed as committee members for the 2016/2017 session of the chapter.
The AGM formalities ended with the start of the fellowship dinner which was made vibrant by the entertainment provided by renowned guest artist Visharadha Sarath Peiris backed by the “Respect plus” band.
