Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah Honoured as Officer of the Order of Australia

Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Executive Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) NSW Chapter for the 2025–2026 session, has been honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Day Honours 2026. Professor Ambikairajah has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to higher education, research, electrical engineering, and technological innovation, as well as for his efforts in strengthening the Sri Lankan alumni and professional community in Australia. A distinguished academic, Professor Ambikairajah previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and as the long-serving Head of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney). Notably, he is the first Sri Lankan to hold senior leadership positions at the university, marking a significant milestone for the Sri Lankan professional community.

This prestigious national honour is a proud moment for the IESL NSW Chapter and the global Sri Lankan community.
