The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) organized a pivotal workshop on "Shaping the Future: CPD Road Map for the Next Decade" on October 14, 2024, at the Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla. The workshop brought together leaders from the engineering sector, private entrepreneurs, policymakers, and academics to collaboratively design a strategic roadmap for CPD programs aimed at meeting future challenges.
The event aimed to address skill gaps, anticipate emerging industry trends, and ensure CPD offerings align with both international standards and future job market needs. With the growing demands for innovative skills in a rapidly evolving technological landscape, participants emphasized the importance of equipping engineers with continuous learning opportunities to stay competitive and relevant.
Dr. Moussa Baalbaki graced the event as the chief guest, while Eng. Mega Kularathnna delivered an insightful speech on the "Importance of CPDs: Comparing the Industry and International Exposures." His presentation highlighted the need for engineers to keep pace with global developments and align CPD programs to international benchmarks.
The workshop saw active participation from IESL members, CPD resource persons, and industry experts. Each sectional committee chair presented their goals and programs for the next decade, laying out plans to expand CPD opportunities and bridge critical skill gaps in specialized areas of engineering.
The discussions reinforced the importance of CPD in enhancing professional competence, ensuring employability, and contributing to national development. The event also highlighted the need for strong collaboration between industry and academia to tailor CPD offerings to meet the demands of both local and global markets.
This strategic workshop reaffirmed IESL’s commitment to empowering engineers with lifelong learning, setting a clear direction for the next decade to ensure Sri Lankan engineers remain at the forefront of innovation and excellence.
The CPD Roadmap, shaped during the event, promises to support professionals as they navigate future challenges and seize new opportunities in an ever-evolving world.
