School children who won Gold Medals under various categories of the Junior Inventor of the Year 2015 competition were presented their awards at the inauguration of the 109th Annual Sessions of the IESL held at the BMICH on Friday, 16th October, 2015. They received their gold medals, certificates and cash prizes from the Chief Guest, Hon. Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Eng. Patali Champika Ranawaka and Eng. (Dr.) S.B.Wijekoon, President of the IESL 2014/15, accompanied by Vice President, IESL Eng. J. Meegoda.
Master T.D. Chamindu Jayashanka from Rajasinghe Central College, Hanwella won in the Efficiency Improvements category for his invention: Modified Crutches. Master Abishek S Gomas of Belvior College International, Colombo won for his invention: Glove for Hand Signs in the category; Appliances that help work simpler and efficient while Master L.N.Kavishka Silva of De Mazanod College, Kandana won for his invention Multitask Screenless Computer in the same category.
Miss Sanju Subodha Sewwandi from Bomiriya Central College received her awards amidst grand ovation for having won a Grand Award in the Engineering Mechanics category at the Grand Award Ceremony, Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held in USA last May for her unique project titled ‘Supporting Rod To Climb Stair Case’. The opportunity to participate in the international competition arose when she won the Gold Award at the ‘Junior Inventor of the Year-2014’ (JIY-2014) competition, conducted by the IESL. The teacher in-charge at Bomiriya Central College, Mr. Yaswardana Saman Kumara was also felicitated for grooming this star student inventor from the college.
