The 109th Annual Sessions of the IESL was ceremonially inaugurated on Friday 16th October, 2015 at the BMICH from 9.00 AM onwards in the presence of a capacity crowd consisted of Council Members, Past Presidents, Corporate Members, spouses, awardees, special invitees and guests. Hon. Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Eng. Patali Champika Ranawaka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Senior Professor and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. Malik Ranasinghe was the Guest of Honour. The Keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Srikantha Herath, Academic Director - Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, United Nations University. Guests from professional bodies from India, Pakistan and Nepal also attended.
The event also saw the ceremonial induction of Eng. Wimalsena Gamage as the President of the IESL for the 2015 / 2016 Session which will begin when the incumbent President, Eng. (Dr.) S.B.Wijekoon will officially handover the mantle of presidency to his successor.
It was also an occasion for presentation of awards and certificates to Honorary Life Members, those inducted as Fellows and International Professional Engineers, winners of Water Resources Development Competitions sponsored by the International Water Management Institute and St. Anthony’s Group, E.O.E. Pereira Award for the Best Paper presented at the Annual Sessions 2014, IESL Award for the best Paper by a Corporate Member published in the “Engineer” Journal during the Sessions 2014 / 2015 and the SD & CC Award for the best Paper by an Associate Member published in the “Engineer” Journal during the Sessions 2014 / 2015.
The event saw long serving staff of the IESL also being awarded in appreciation and recognition of dedicated service of over 25 years at the IESL. The inauguration ceremonies concluded around 12.00 noon.
The IESL Council members, foreign guests and Secretariat staff therafter attended a special dinner party held at the recently refurbished Members Lounge at the IESL for fellowship and socializing. They were entertained by music provided by their very own ‘ Music Engineers ‘ formed by a group of musically talented engineers.
