How to groom and produce professional engineers from your school?

Talk to School Program at Dehiattakandiya



As a part of the ongoing "Talk to School" program organized by the Young Members Section (YMS) of The Insititution of Engineers Sri Lanka, one session was conducted at the Ampara Dehiattakandiya area with the participation from students of Dehiattakandiya Madhyama Maha Vidyalaya, Dolakanda Madhya Maha Vidyalaya and Medagama Madhyama Maha Vidyalaya on 15th March 2019. The program aims to raise the awareness among the school students the role of engineer at large as well as encouraging the students to become future engineers.

The topics discussed during the program includes Why a one should become an engineer? What are the pathways to become an engineer? How is the life in the university if gets selected to one of the engineering faculties in the state universities? What are the engineering disciplined available in Sri Lankan industry? What are the responsibilities of an engineer? What are the engineering creations having national importance? What are the contributions from those to the country? What kind of social recognition you would get by becoming an engineer? Also the importance of having the aim of becoming an engineer from the school days and the importance at the national level of directing engineers to the national level leadership.

The awareness session lectures were conducted by a panel of eminent engineers which includes Vice president of the Intitution of Engineer Sri Lanka Eng. Arjuna Manamperi, Vice President of the YMS Eng. Dimuthu Lakmal who is an engineer from the same area, IESL North Western Province representative Eng. Damith Disanayake and Eng. Yasitha Saman Bandara, Eng. Amal Dhammika Bandara. Apart from the professional engineers the event was graced by the participation of engineering undergraduates of Faculty of Engineering at the South East University.

The "Talk to School" program will continue and the target audience of the program is advanced level students who are studying in the physical science stream.
