Engineering Excellence Awards

The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka is getting ready to recognize the top achievements of the Engineering profession once again by organizing the “ The Engineering Excellence Awards” ceremony in 2018. The Engineering Awards scheme was established by the IESL to encourage and celebrate the excellence in the science and the practice of engineering by rewarding the best and the finest of its members, individuals, organizations and enterprises in Sri Lanka for their outstanding accomplishments and achievements related to engineering. The Engineering Excellence Awards were first presented by the IESL in the year 2006 and subsequently in the years 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2016, the IESL council decided to hold the event in every three years to maintain its grandeur.

Excellence is defined as the state, quality, or condition of excelling; superiority, with excel being defined as to be better than; surpass---to surpass or do better than others. Most of us being professionals who practice the engineering and carry out our duty on our own interests and country’s expectations. In that sense we all should be applauded. Still there are individuals and organizations who raise the bar further, who innovate and make not possible- possible, change the things for the betterment of mankind. They deserve special recognition and shall be rewarded.

The IESL Excellence Award categories are well thought of. These awards spans from the “Young Chartered Engineer Award” to “Eminence in Engineering Award” which is the pinnacle of the awards in the individual category. The awards for organizations recognize Manufacturing, Construction and Engineering Services sectors with the consideration given to business size. The Award for Excellence in Engineering Journalism recognizes the individuals including IESL members for the outstanding authorship, reporting , production in print or electronic media to further public understanding and promotion of engineering. Further there are awards for Team efforts and Projects. The organizing committee for 2018 shall introduce a category to recognize excellent Engineering undergraduates. These awards will create the momentum among our student members. Some of these awards are nomination based and for some, applications shall be forwarded. Your organization or your colleague should be worthy to be recognized and awarded. So, wait for the details and fly the flags this time!
