Eng. (Dr.) Udeni Nawagamuwa, who served as EditorSLEN since Oct. 2012, has handed over the reins of Editorship of the SLEN to Eng. Indika Walpitage with effect from Oct 2016. Dr. Nawagamuwa’s tenure had an auspicious start coinciding with the 30th anniversary of publication of the IESL newsletter, firstly as “IESL News “and subsequently under its current name of “Sri Lanka Engineering News”.

The Single Standard for Plugs and Socket Outlets in Sri Lanka: Approved |

At the Cabinet meeting held on 16th August 2016, the Government approved the implementation of a single standard for plugs and socket outlets. This standard will be the Type G socket and plug, already widely used in the country. Type G socket is rated at 13 A, and it is widely known among electricians as the “square pin” socket.
