During the month of March-April, Engineers had bitter experience and faced heavy criticism from the general public, as well as politicians, due to island wide power outages though our Engineers were able to restore power supply within a very short period. The failure of the power supply authority to maintain reliable supply of electricity for which Sri Lanka was proud of as one of the best in South Asia has been questioned by the citizens, politicians, industrialists and all those who are keen to forge ahead with the development agenda in the country.

Sri Lanka Railways celebrated 150 years of existence in 2014. The idea to electrify Sri Lanka Railways was first broached in 1920s by none other than our eminent engineer, late D J Wimalasurendra. In 2008, IESL gave a well documented feasibility report to GoSL. After nearly 90 years, the Nation is still waiting to reap the benefits of railway electrification.

30th April 2016, a group of 25 Engineers of IESL participated in a field visit organized by the Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committee ( MESC ) to EWIS computer assembly plant at Sooriyawewa, Hambanthota. The group arrived at the plant at 1100 hrs. Ms. Dulcy Premachandra –Operations Manager, Mr. Prem Kumar – Technical Manager and Mr. Ranjith Kumar – Technical Manager welcomed us at the Factory.
