President's Corner

Dear Members,

During the month of March the public’s attention was focused towards the engineers. At the beginning of the month the President of the country stressed the responsibility of the intellectual community at the Annual General Meeting of the Public Service Engineers' Association. President categorically mentioned that the responsibility of the intellectual community is not to leave the country protesting that salaries and facilities are not enough, but to join the campaign to build the nation for the sake of future generations.

It is true that one should understand that there are problems in the sphere, but they should understand not only the need for personal benefits but also the need of the country the President said.

He further stated that the Sri Lankan intellectuals have the freedom to study under the free education system and also to leave the country if they wish and that no other country has such free opportunities. So, without lamenting about the poor standards of our country, everybody should give their maximum contribution to build the nation with confidence and determination he added.

It is true that government is totally committed to solve all issues pertaining to professionals as well as the general public and as professionals it is our prime duty to direct the government authorities to implement development strategies.

The President also stressed that Engineers should give sufficient publicity to create awareness about the good works done by them towards the general public.

The SLEN newsletter is always seeking provincial engineering news to publish in its monthly bulletin. Further, the IESL is organizing paper supplements with local daily newspapers to disseminate the achievements of our Engineers to the general public with Sinhala, Tamil and English articles pertaining to provincial engineering news.

Therefore, the Editor of SLEN and staff of IESL are seeking your cooperation to implement these proposals.

Thank you.

Eng. Wimalasena Gamage
President of IESL
