Good day to you my dear friends. As usual I would like to say a few things about the latest happenings in the IESL for this issue of the Digital SLEN. Incidentally this will also probably my last communication through this President’s Column as activities for the 2013 / 2014 sessions are drawing to a close and I will be handing over the presidency to my successor Eng. S.B.Wijekoon.

This would be the last SLEN before the AGM to be held in October. The President - IESL declared the year as the Year of Professional Excellence and we have achieved an even greater success, notably the greatest achievement of being a signatory country of the Washington Accord.

Before I describe the above topic, I wish to draw the attention of the readers to Solar Water Heater Systems usage in Sri Lanka. About 10 years ago, very few households used solar water Heaters for hot water needs, because they were relatively high in price at that time (1) due to the use of blackened copper tubes in fabrication of Solar Water Heaters, (2). Electric Showers or Hot Water Geysers were relatively low in price and (3) electricity tariff was low during that period.
