The Federation of Engineering Institution of South and Central Asia, FEISCA Regional Conference for the year 2017 on the theme ‘" Energy Policy for Regional Cooperation & Development" was held at the Taj Samudra, Crystal Ballroom on Saturday - October 21, 2017 from 09.00 a.m. onwards. Dr. Suren Batagoda, Secretary, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy was the Chief Guest while the keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Priyantha Wijeyatunga, Director, South Asia Energy Division, Asian Development Bank on the topic Regional Cooperation for Energy Sector Development in Asia”.
Foreign delegations from FEISCA member organizations in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal attended the conference which was also attended by the local engineering fraternity from public and private organizations including professionals from the industry and academia.
Eng. Jayavilal Meegoda holding the parallel presidencies; President - IESL & President - FEISCA welcomed the participants to the conference.
The following country papers were presented during the morning session chaired by Eng. Anura Wijayapala:
- “SAARC Intergovernmental Frame Work agreement on energy Cooperation(Electricity)” by Eng. Merrille Goonetilleke
- “Energy Policy for Regional Co-operation and Development: An Indian Perspective” by Eng. Navinchandra B Vasoya
- “Energy Policy for Regional Co-operation and Development: Bangaadesh” by Engr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman
The evening session saw the following papers being presented with: Prof. H. Y.Ranjith Perera being the session chairman the session:
- “Development of Power and National Power Policy, Pakistan” by Eng (Dr.). Izhar Ul Haq
- “Regional cooperation in energy: A policy framework for investment and transfer pricing in South Asia” by Dr.Tilak Siyabalapitiya
- “Evolution of Energy Policy in Sri Lanka: The Past, Present & Future” by Eng.Harsha Wickramasinghe
The presentation of papers was followed by a panel discussion which was chaired by Eng. Shavindranath Fernando, Past President of IESL. Participants too were given the opportunity to field questions to the panel at the end of the discussion.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the President Elect for the 2016 / 2017 sessions who has been already inducted as the new President at the inauguration of 2017 / 2018 sessions held the previous day at the BMICH
