As an IESL subcommittee our intention is to promote the acquisition and interchange of technical knowledge, advance the science and practice of engineering in all its branches and regulate professional activities in Sri Lanka.
To achieve above expectation, CESC intends to implement several new suggestions in 2018 according to ideas raised and discussed in the CESC meeting held on 6/11/2017. The purpose of this meeting was to elect the new office bearers for the new session and discuss about the agenda for the year 2018. During this meeting, many valuable suggestions were put forwarded by the members which can be helpful to enhance and smoothen the functioning of CSEC to serve the profession and the country in a better way.
The president of IESL also participated the inauguration meeting and delivered a brief speech that built up the morale of the members to work as a team towards to best interest of the profession, industry and the country. Further she emphasized the benefit for individuals through networking with other fellow engineers as well as through the exposure to leadership, knowledge etc. through CESC activities. Finally, she wished best of luck for CESC for this year.
Special thanks should be given to our new chairman Eng. Lalith Pallegame for delivering a speech on his work plan which is described below.
- Should conduct at least one or two technical conferences and produce a technical reports, policy documents etc. based on the current issues (Eg. Transportation, Road safety, Ancient Technology, Cost effective construction methodology, Green buildings, Solid waste management).
- Conduct at least five workshops to enhance the capacity, knowledge and skills of engineers (Eg. Engineering Designs, Leadership, Public speaking, Safety matters, Code of Ethics etc.).
- Conduct a programme which enhance the research and Development capacity of Engineers.
- Organize CPDs that are important to civil engineers in coordination with the CPD committee of IESL.
- CSR programme which related to civil engineers for the benefit of the society
- Preparation of guidelines for the process of building approval that will avoid disasters such as Wellawaththe building collapse.
- Technical Evaluation of major infrastructure development projects
- Technical involvement to prevent other disasters such as flood, landslides etc.
- Enhance the effectiveness of PR process of IESL and assist the engineers get the PR and to recognize engineering organizations.
- Publish books or publish articles in journals, newspapers, SLEN etc. that are relevant for engineers, technicians, general public or school children.
In addition to above suggestions it is expected to facilitate the communication between the members and public groups related to CESC. For this aspect it is decided to establish Viber, Whatsapp groups and an Email group for all main committee and subcommittee members. It is expected to communicate all CESC activities through IESL web and E mail.
Further it is planned to conduct at least one public lecture each month in addition to the memorial lectures like Eng. (Prof ) E.O.E. Pereira memorial oration and Eng. (Dr) A.N.S. Kulasinghe memorial lecture.
Conducting building clinics, not only in Colombo but outside also is another expectation of CESC. Meanwhile our regular events like New Year Festival, Annual Get Together, Field visit, Techno stall, Techno seminar room etc. are also to be continued.
To organize these events and to implement above suggestions and expectations a team of engineers were elected as the office bearers of CESC for 2018. Some vacant positions are to be filled during the next committee meeting.

Team Leaders and Deputy Team Leaders and subcommittee members were appointed and some vacant positions to be filled in next meeting.
At end of the session Eng. Janappriya Thilakarathne, the newly appointed secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
