A new session of the IESL commenced on 29th October this year, and I am pleased to send this message to you as the President for the 112th Session of IESL. Government’s policy framework ‘V2025: A Country Enriched’, was launched on 5th September 2017, and it is stated that the government’s economic vision is “to make Sri Lanka a rich country by 2025, by transforming Sri Lanka into the hub of the Indian Ocean, with a knowledge-based, highly competitive, social-market economy”. Sri Lanka has been experiencing sporadic whether pattern over last year. People living in the western region of the country expected to see the rain ceased by November, yet experiencing downfalls daily. In contrast the northern part of country experienced extended drought few months back.

It is indeed a great honour and a rare privilege to be the President of The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, the Premier Engineering Professional Body of Sri Lanka, which has been in uninterrupted existence for 111 years, currently having a membership of more than 20,000, which includes 5000 Chartered Engineers, residing and working all over Sri Lanka and in many other parts of the world too.

The presentation of Technical Papers for 111th Annual Sessions was held at the IESL headquarters on 23-24 of October, 2017. Response to this year’s Call for Papers saw an unprecedented number of abstracts and full papers being submitted and the 83 papers that were finally accepted were presented by the authors in parallel session.
