The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), represented by its President and officials, participated in a discussion convened by the Department of Management Services of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development on 23 June 2026, regarding the review and reconsideration of amendments to the Schemes of Recruitment for engineering positions.
During the discussion, IESL highlighted several important aspects that should be carefully considered when revising the Schemes of Recruitment applicable to engineering practitioners. IESL also emphasized the importance of updating decades old recruitment, selection, and promotion schemes to align with current industry requirements, emerging technologies, professional standards, and national development needs.
IESL further noted that properly structured and industry relevant Schemes of Recruitment will strengthen the engineering profession, improve technical capacities, and ultimately contribute to the development of the country.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Engineering Council, Sri Lanka, and representatives of the Institution of Incorporated Engineers, Sri Lanka.
IESL looks forward to continuing these discussions regularly with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the engineering profession is appropriately recognized and strengthened in the national interest.
