IESL Engages Key Stakeholders to Strengthen Fire Safety in Sri Lanka. 

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) held an important discussion on 27th January 2026 with key national stakeholders (Ministry of Housing and Construction, Condominium Management Authority(CMA), Construction Industry Development Authority,(CIDA), Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Colombo Fire Service Department, Sri Lanka Institute of Architect (SLIA), Urban Development Authority (UDA),State Engineering corporation and CECB on fire safety in Sri Lanka: Responsibilities, Regulations and Readiness. The session focused on the regularization of fire system design, installation, and maintenance, ensuring that industry practices align with acceptable safety standards.

Key areas addressed included the identification of gaps in existing laws and regulations and propose a most suitable mechanism to ensure public safety , as well as the urgent need for improved education, public awareness, and capacity building among professionals and relevant authorities.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward strengthening fire safety governance, improving regulatory frameworks, and safeguarding lives and infrastructure across the country.
