Public Lecture on “Art of problem solving with lean six sigma concepts'' (29th March 2018)
 

The Public Lecture organized by Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committee in collaboration with IMechE Sri Lanka Group on “Art of problem solving with lean six sigma concepts" was successfully held at the Wimaladharmasuriya Auditorium of Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka from 5.30 pm onwards on 26th March 2018.

 

The resource person was Eng. Thirakaran Mahalingam who is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Certified Len Six Sigma Black Belt in profession. He has completed his Masters in Industrial Automation from University of Moratuwa and B.Sc in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from University of Ruhuna. He has 10 years of industrial experiences in multinational manufacturing-based companies with sheet metal and workshop processes, electronic component manufacturing and food processing and has worked on many top down and bottom up projects.

 

During his presentation it was discussed why "Problem solving" in any industry by any profession is paramount in order to create competitive advantages on its business. In order to sustain in a business, the creation of perceived values on its product or services for their customers also imperative. Hence, creating an environment with in the business to create value by eliminating non-value- added activities will be a back bone and most of the big businesses have followed and following nationally and internationally. The lecture has been delivered about the contribution of lean six sigma concepts in problem solving with his experiences in industry especially on cultural transformation in order to create a problem-solving environment and barriers in implementing lean six sigma concepts.

 

The session was followed by dinner and fellowship at Members' Lodge of IESL.
